About this site

Heartland Prepper is a running record of one basement shelf. I am stocking it slowly, one item at a time, for the ordinary kind of trouble: a multi-day power outage, a storm that closes the roads, a week when the water is not safe to drink.

I write anonymously. There is no name, face, or location on this site, and that is on purpose. Part of being prepared is not advertising what you have or where you keep it. The privacy prep section is about that same idea.

The rules I write by

  • Nothing is listed until it is on the shelf. If I have not bought it, it is not here.
  • I say what I have actually done with it. Unboxed and stored is different from used for a week, and the write-up will say which.
  • No invented specs or test results. If I did not measure it, I do not quote a number for it.
  • Affiliate links are labeled. Every review has a disclosure box above the store buttons. See the full disclosure.
  • The free list links here, not to stores. The gear list PDF links to the write-ups on this site so you can read before you buy.

What is coming

The first write-ups are being drafted now. The free gear list goes out to subscribers as soon as the first batch is on the shelf.
